A few months ago, we made the change to biodegradable/compostable shipping satchels and the feedback we received from you guys were amazing. Thank you! π
Our next step was to always replace our bubblewrap. Just as satisfying it is to pop bubblewrap (like pimples!), they're BOTH not good for you.Β Our current bubblewrap is branded as "eco-friendly" and "oxo-degradable" and we've continued to use them in the meantime while we searched for alternatives that could completely replace them.
We put "eco-friendly" and "oxo-degradable" in quotation marks as we've done a lot of research into bubblewrap brands pushing for eco-friendly (i.e. made from recycled plastic) and oxo-degradable"and all the science shows...while it's a good alternative, we're not completely getting rid of plastic waste. Most of the time, they're just marketing hot words to lure people into thinking they're better alternatives but it doesn't mean they're actually good for the environment.
So that's not good enough for us. We know that as an online retailer, we play an important role in the plastic footprint and important role inΒ reducing that footprint. Our research has lead us to "greenwrap" (Geami WrapPak):
From their website:
Geami WrapPak is a disposable and recycleable combination of die cut kraft paper and tissue interleaf that is used to cushion and protect fragile items during shipment.
The papers used to create WrapPak are either Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI) certified or made using recycled content. WrapPak is biodegradable and 100% recyclable through your communityβs recycling program.
It is a delicate balance of making sure that your products are well protected YET ensuring that we don't add to plastic waste. We've done some tests on the greenwrap (we've had fun wrapping some products in them and throwing them around π) but the real test is you guys!
Unfortunately the wrapping doesn't look as "pretty" and neat as bubblewrap but the end goal should be the same - it should protect your products while also protecting the earth! π
Over the next few weeks, we'll be trialing out the greenwrap on our packages and gathering feedback from you guys to see how you're liking it!
